Constantly rising tension

This story comes to us from the perspective of a young girl. Her days begin innocently enough, and we are spared much by seeing through her eyes. As she grows older, we begin to feel the rising tension that she and her family must live through, and we experience the fading of her innocence. It is a loving, but painful, depiction of what ordinary families were forced to endure. We must consider whether we would have the capacity to be as strong during such evil times, to hold on to hope, to hold out for a return to normalcy. It is a tremendous story of courage and compassion, and is a testament to the human spirit. I really enjoyed this novel, and its satisfying conclusion. If you are looking for a story that will really make you feel, this is the one to read!

Really loved this book! I thought it was beautifully written and a fascinating perspective of civilians living through WW2 and beyond. A great vacation read you can really let yourself fall into!
